The Australian Parliament… Present and Future

Alan Thompson ex-head of ancillary services at Parliament House Canberra spokeon some current challenges confronting our democracy and Parliament.

One of the biggest challenges is the amount of booze in Parliament House. Fortunately the Prime Ministers Office is currently dry, but in all other areas drinks are readily available.

Another issue is the Parliamentary schedule and the strain that puts on parliamentarians spending so much time away from their families.

Alan believes that the most effective governments have a strong treasurer and he shared his top four Prime Minister/Treasurer teams for effectiveness, interestingly these were evenly split between the two main parties.
